Chagrin Falls Guide
The Chagrin Falls community is built on long-standing historic roots. Near the center of town and the falls themselves is the Chagrin Falls Township Hall. Built in 1864 and bought by the town in 1875, Township Hall is used today to host community events such as plays, recitals and is home to the Chagrin Falls Visitor Center.
Township Hall is one of the many historic buildings in the town, with many homes and buildings from the late 1800’s and turn of the century, including the Golden Gate Masonic Temple building built in 1923 on the edge of Riverside Park. Visitors and residents can explore the historic architecture of the town by participating in the annual Chagrin Falls Historic Home and Garden Walking Tour.
Chagrin Falls is also home to one of the oldest community theaters in the country, the Chagrin Valley Little Theater, founded in 1930 and producing about eight major productions a year.
The Chagrin Exempted Village School District has two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school, all with class sizes in the 14 to 20 students range. Chagrin Falls High School was rated 97th in Newsweek’s Top 1,000 US Schools in 2006 and has been given an “Excellent” rating by the magazine for six years in a row.
Private schools in the village include the Solon Montessori School for kindergarten to 6th grade, the Catholic St. Joan of Arc School for kindergarten to 8th grade and the private University School for high school students.
Shops and Events
While Chagrin Falls may be small village there’s plenty to see for residents and visitors alike. There are several antique and clothing shops located in the vibrant downtown area, all within walking distance of each other. In fact, the Chagrin Falls community has everything residents need, from clothing stores to a pharmacy to bookstores to bridal and baby shops, all a literal hop, skip, and jump away and making this historic community a thoroughly self-sustaining one.
There are plenty of events year-round to entertain and educate, including the annual Wine by the Falls fundraiser for the Chagrin Falls Country Club and the Holiday Traditions series of events from November through December. In the summertime residents can participate in Yoga by the Falls and then shop at the Farmers Market from June through October.
Chagrin Falls is a thriving community with small town charm with a historical foundation as beautiful as the falls that gave it its name, making this an ideal place to live.
