Schools

Gates Mills offers top rated education at three institutions in the vicinity. Gates Mills Elementary School boasts a rating of excellent, which is the top rating in Ohio. With only 125 students from kindergarten through fifth grade, an intimate classroom setting provides students with valuable interaction.

Beyond elementary school, students may enter the wider Mayfield City School District, or enroll in one of the private schools located in Gates Mills. St. Francis of Assisi serves prekindergarten through eighth grade, and the Gilmour Academy serves prekindergarten through twelfth grade.

Outdoor Attractions

The Chagrin River is a uniquely beautiful area that draws visitors all year round. Throughout the summer the lush greenery is picturesque, and the vibrant autumn colors are breathtaking. Winter ice and blooming flowers complete the annual cycle of beauty, and the river must be seen at every stage.

Parks

The North Chagrin Reservation provides year round entertainment, and includes a nature center, biking and hiking trails, fishing, sledding, horseback riding, picnic areas, and much more. The reservation has something for every member of the family, and provides some of the most popular areas for observing waterfowl.

Things to Do

There is never a dull moment in Gates Mills, and the Recreational Board provides entertainment for all ages. The Saturday before Easter there is an Easter egg hunt, followed by coffee and donuts while the Easter Bunny visits the children. An annual art show takes places in April and runs for two weeks, featuring the creative works of residents from across the Northeast Ohio region.

There is an annual concert in July where residents are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and picnic suppers while they enjoy the orchestra. There are additional entertainments for other groups such as tennis exhibitions, senior programs, theater summer day camp, and holiday celebrations that involve the whole community.

Throughout the rest of the year, the local schools provide numerous classes including languages, creative arts, and educational materials for the wider population.

Organizations
If you have a flair for the dramatic, The Players of Gates Mills will open you with welcome arms. The Players is an amateur theater group that produces and creates plays for local audiences. Along with the performances, the Players have a summer picnic and funds scholarships for students.
