James A. Garfield’s Home
James A. Garfield made Mentor, Ohio his home in 1876 and in 1880, proceeded to run the first successful “front porch” presidential campaign from his house, resulting in his election as the 20th president of the United States.
This National historical site was renovated in 1990 and opened to the public in 1998. Tours, both public and behind the scenes, provide a glimpse of the past, develop insight into the life of one of our country’s leaders, and cultivate a sense of pride in the people of Mentor, Ohio.
